Tips for Naming Your Corgi

You want to avoid names that sound similar to commands you’ll use with your dog. Mae is cute, but it rhymes with “stay.” A corgi could easily confuse Noel and “no.”

You should also consider the names of people and other pets in your home. Calling your corgi Bessie isn’t a good idea if your roommate’s name is Jessie.

Should a Dog’s Name Be Two Syllables?

A name that is one or two syllables is ideal. You want your corgi’s name to sound crisp and commanding when you call it. Any name longer than two syllables can sound muddled.

Most dog owners will admit to calling their pups multiple names. There’s nothing wrong with referring to your corgi as Princess Francesca, but consider using the nickname Frannie to call her.

Final Thoughts

Naming your corgi is the first step in establishing a bond with your pet. You can draw from Welsh heritage with names like Dylan, Rhys, or Ponty. Is your Corgi on the small side? Then consider Peewee, Tiny, or Peanut. Or maybe a classic name like Benji, Marley, or Lady is more your style. Take your time choosing the right name for your corgi.
